The best three-year-old pacing filly in Canada hails from our backyard.
Lauras Love, owned by London trainer John Pentland and Thamesford’s Gracie Mae Barr, and Lucan-based Karma Seelster of Seelster Farms are category finalists for the 2020 O’Brien Awards, to be announced in a virtual ceremony Sunday night.
Lauras Love notched 16 Top 3 finishes, including eight wins in 20 races, to earn $331,000 last year. Karma Seelster had three victories and nine Top 3 finishes in 15 races for $277,000, including an Ontario Sires Stakes Gold event and a sweep of the Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association Stake.
Lawless Shadow, also from Seelster Farms, is up in the two-year-old pacing colt division after topping $300,000 in his rookie campaign. So Much More, owned by Granton trainer Don Beatson, Palgrave’s Kenneth Beatson and Exeter’s Cole England, is an older pacing mare finalist and Century Farroh, from Century Spring Farms in Gorrie, is looking for another O’Brien trophy in the older pacing horse category after being voted Canada’s top three-year-old pacing colt in 2019.
Three-time breeder of the year Seelster Farms is up for the honour again. The powerhouse produced 260 race winners and earned more than $3.5 million in 2020.
